Geothermal Heating

Harness the power of the earth with Geothermal Heating. By using a Ground Source Heat Pump you can achieve significant energy savings by tapping into the steady 12 degree Celsius temperature of the ground.

How it works

There are two main types of Geothermal heating systems used in the UK, and choosing which one is best for you is usually down to strictly practical considerations.

The most cost effective option is Horizontal Loops where pipes are buried beneath the ground. Water is pumped through these pipes, heated by the warmth of the ground and topped up to the desired temperature with a heatpump.

If your available ground area is restricted then another option is a Borehole. This is a more expensive option, but it's often a good solution for larger premises where the customer wants to maximise energy efficiency.

The ground space required or the depth and number of boreholes you'd need are dependent on your expected energy use.

In addition, heatpumps are also available to draw heat from a lake or a large pond, and are highly energy efficient.

Does it suit domestic use?

Yes, geothermal energy suits a wide range of buildings. In fact with the National Home Energy Rating Scores about to be introduced, homes that have invested in renewable energy will become more and more desirable.

As with all our products and services, we would only ever advise you to install a product if we thought it would bring you real energy efficiency and cost savings benefits.
